Executive Vice President, Mastercard Policy Center

Overview

Reporting to the Chief Legal and Global Affairs Officer, and as part of a team comprised of the Chief Legal Officer; EVP, Global Government Affairs; and VP, Global Affairs Operations (the “Global Affairs Leadership Team”), the leader of Mastercard Policy Center is responsible for identifying Mastercard’s global policy priorities. This Executive Vice President will lead a global team charged with understanding Mastercard’s corporate strategy as it relates to global policy trends, and developing policy solutions that enables this strategy. This is a global role, positioning Mastercard as a partner and thought leader to policy influencers worldwide. The EVP, Mastercard Policy Center will develop strong familiarity with and understanding of in Mastercard’s key markets, with significant travel expected.

Role

  • Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and synergy among members working on various aspects of global public policy strategies.
  • Engage with think tanks, NGOs, academics and other policy influencers around the globe to develop deep subject matter expertise, identify trends, and create forward-looking policy solutions that advance Mastercard’s corporate strategy and vision for the future.
  • Facilitate an ongoing strategic planning process with Mastercard’s strategy team, business teams and Legal and Global Affairs team in close and deep collaboration to refine, decide and communicate internally Mastercard’s policy goals and positions.
  • Partner with Mastercard’s Government Affairs team to develop and plan strategic messaging for effective campaigns at the regional and local levels.
  • Develop data-driven insights and empirical evidence to strengthen Mastercard’s policy analysis, advocacy and strategic positioning. This will include bringing together the work done across Legal & Global Affairs team and business units to curate, compile and analyze relevant data sources.
  • Support Mastercard’s advocacy efforts with well-organized, accessible and up to date advocacy materials across relevant policy topics, and the preparation of responses to requests for comment and information.
  • Provide periodic communications on geopolitical developments customized to Mastercard’s businesses, including broader geopolitical trends that will shape the business environment across major markets.
  • Partner with the Global Affairs Leadership Team to support advocacy strategies that advance Mastercard’s corporate objectives.
  • In collaboration with the VP, Global Affairs Operations, manage the Mastercard Policy Center’s budget: set targets, track expenses, and oversee external contracts with vendors.
  • In collaboration with the VP, Global Affairs Operations, develop KPIs for measuring the team’s success and develop use of systems, process and technology to continually improve the team’s efficiency and enable more strategic work.


All About You

  • Significant experience in policy development and advocacy, preferably in a leadership role within an international multicultural organization.
  • Must exhibit a global mindset accompanied by significant global experience, ideally having worked in two or more of the following locations: Europe, the United States, South America, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific region.
  • Demonstrated ability as a skilled internal and external relationship builder, with the ability to construct and maintain strong networks of influence within the industry and governing institutions globally.
  • Government advocacy and policy is a team sport! You must be a strong team player partnering closely with the Global Affairs Leadership Team and cross-functional leaders across Mastercard.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
